I have lived in MO my entire life. When I was a little kid, we lived in the Kansas City area. I was born and raised a KC Chiefs and Royals fan. At the age of 24, I got married and moved to Springfield with my wife. At that time, I was working at Steak N Shake and my wife was working at Panera. We lived in a 400 sq ft apartment and didn’t have much at all, but we had our own apartment, were newly married, and felt on top of the world. Fast forward 18 years, I am now an insurance agent, and my wife is a homemaker. She spends a lot of time homeschooling our kids and volunteering. We love to be outside and spend time together as a family.
About Adam McGrath
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My wife and I have 2 girls, ages 11 and 8. Our oldest is learning the piano and loves to dance. Our youngest is learning the violin and loves to jump out of random places and scare me to death. lol
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
For the last 13 years I have been an Insurance Agent, home, auto, and life. I am independent, which means that we have access to several insurance companies. This is huge, because no single insurance company is the best fit for everybody. Especially in this season where prices are going crazy everywhere you look. It helps to have an agent who can quote insurance with several companies. We love to work hard and help people figure out their best insurance options. Over the years we have figured out that our specialty is working with homebuyers. We love working alongside their Realtor and Mortgage Lender to help the client have a great homebuying experience. One of my favorite things about this job is seeing a client move into their new home. It’s such an exciting time for them and I am always thankful to have played a small piece in the process of them getting into the new home!
Adam McGrath & Our Community
Q: What are a couple of your favorite businesses/restaurants in Nixa?
We have quickly become a fan of 14 Mill Market. They have so much to offer! We also love El Puente. Another business that we have gotten to know recently is Unique Tile. They have amazing customer service and do great work.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Nixa?
We have lived in Nixa for a little more than 10 years.
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies/past times?
In this season of life with family and work, there is not a lot of time leftover for hobbies, but if I did have an afternoon to do whatever I wanted, I’d probably spend some time playing the drums. Back in the day, I used to play in bands and at church. It’s something I still enjoy doing when I can. Aside from that, I do like to read, travel, and work on things around the house.
Q: What is one of your most favorite things about Nixa?
I love that Nixa is still a small town, but it has everything you need.
Q: What advice would you give to people living in Nixa?
Get to know your neighbors! The other day I was thinking about how we have lived in the same area for quite a while, and I had the embarrassing realization that we really haven’t gotten to know many of our neighbors. We all need community and have so much to offer each other.
For Fun
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I would love to take our family to Yellowstone National Park. I think it would be such a great time to get out there away from all the noise and spend some time with family.
Q: What has been a challenge you have had to over come? (Work, Life, School, etc)
One of my favorite quotes is from Henry Ford, which is, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right,” When I think back about obstacles I’ve come across at work or in relation to our family, I’ve learned time and time again that your mindset is so very important. It’s not always easy to win the battle in your mind, but it’s so important to train your mind and to not let it take over.
Q: Who has been a hero in your life?
My Dad. As I’ve gotten older and our kids have started to grow up, I’ve seen so many things from a different perspective. As an adult with kids of my own, I am so thankful that my Dad was very purposeful and intentional in being there for his family, working hard to provide, and leading his family to Jesus.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (Even for friends or family)?
When I was 15 years old, I joined some friends who started a band and became their drummer. We signed a deal with Columbia Records 6 months later. It was a blast and I frequently wish I could go back and relive those experiences. I absolutely loved recording in the studio and seeing how the songs developed. We got to travel through 48 states and 6 countries. Great memories!
Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?
Becoming a Dad. I love being a Dad and getting to experience each season with our kids as they grow up. It is one of the biggest blessings in my life.
Q: Who is an interesting person in our community that you’ve met and deserves to be included in The Faces of Nixa project?
Stephanie Karlsons at Unique Tile
